Around half of all aged care residents living in aged care today suffer from dementia, depression, or other mental health, medical or behavioural condition. 

The prevalence of these conditions in the nursing home and aged care residency population means Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) are often subjected to unprovoked involuntary aggressive behaviors where physical, verbal, or sexual interactions are directed at them or towards other residents in their care.
